2023/2024 Board of Directors – Call for Applications
The Board of Directors of the Sponsorship Marketing Council Canada invites applications for three (3) Director at Large positions, one (1) Director, Vancouver Market, one (1) Director, Montreal on the Board of Directors for a term of up to three (3) years beginning in November 2023.
A brief description of the role, as well as the skills required to fulfill this position are included below.
Responsibilities of Board of Directors
The Board of Directors are elected representatives that oversee and direct the activities of SMCC. The Board of Directors are responsible for managing the affairs, activities and property of SMCC and have the authority and responsibility for establishing the overall direction and general operating policies of SMCC with respect to matters of general interest to all members. The Board is expected to represent the best interests of the members and the organization.
Additional Responsibilities of the Director, Vancouver Market and Director, Montreal Market
There is a Regional Advisory Board representing each of SMCC’s regional markets, including Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. The Regional Market Directors ensure that each market conducts an adequate number of professional development and networking opportunities. One individual from each Regional Advisory Board sits on the National Board of Directors and serves as a board liaison. The Regional Advisory Board is comprised of additional volunteers, however, the Director, Vancouver Market and Director, Montreal Market are responsible for leading the committee in executing regional activities.
Board of Directors Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an active member of SMCC;
- Must have several years of industry experience;
- Must have an established network in the industry;
- Must hold a senior leadership position in the industry; and
- Experience on an SMCC committee is preferred.
- Must be primarily located in Vancouver and Montreal (only a requirement for the Director, Vancouver Market position and Director, Montreal Market Position)
Application Process
Members may apply for a position in advance of the Annual General Meeting by completing the online application form and sending their resume to the SMCC Office by Thursday, August 31st, 2023. Click here to submit your application.
Election Process
Elections will take place by electronic vote on the SMCC website in September/October. The Nominations & Elections Committee will tabulate the results of the election and present them to the board. The board will appoint duties to the elected officers as determined by the election results and will put forward a motion for the Slate of Directors, which will be ratified at the Annual General Meeting in November.
